J&L EDUCATION SPACE
PROJECT TYPE: Commercial/Education
LOCATION: La Porte, IN
PROJECT GOALS: Create a classroom for engineering classes that conforms to local codes and accommodates changing technology.
DESIGN STATEMENT: As one of Indiana’s foremost finishing and engineering companies, J&L Dimensional understands the importance of keeping their employees up to date on new industry techniques and tools. Because of that the owners were eager to convert their underused second level into a classroom where they could hold engineering training for their employees and other professionals in their industry. The classroom features seating for up to 12? students with integrated outlets for laptop chargers in the tables. The instructor’s desk also features a raised podium surface, providing both work space and presenting space adjacent to the smart whiteboard. This whiteboard acts as an interactive projector surface, allowing for dynamic classes that provide more immersive understanding. The classroom also features locking cabinets that provide secure storage for equipment used in demos and “lab style” classes. Adjacent to the classroom is a break room and restrooms to be used by the classes and by employees with offices on the second level. Direct/indirect lighting fixtures with dimmer switch controls reduce glare and eye strain during computer work while allowing the lights to be bright enough to see fine details during demos and hands-on classes. The color palette of sage green, terra cotta, and warm neutrals invites both growth and comfort into this highly efficient education suite.
