J&L Owner's Suite
PROJECT TYPE: Mixed Use
LOCATION: La Porte, IN
PROJECT GOALS: Add a private one bedroom apartment suite adjacent to the planned educational space.
DESIGN STATEMENT: Once the owners of J&L Dimensional saw the results of the classroom and break room I designed for their business, they expanded the scope of the project to include a small apartment suite for their personal use as a pied a terre. This space features a private living room, bathroom, office, and bedroom all appointed with timeless transitional furniture pieces. Keeping the same color palette of sage green, terra cotta, and warm neutrals from the classroom space creates a consistent feel for the entire upper level. The locking private door opens directly into the office space, maintaining the continuity from workplace to working suite. Attached to the office area is the living room, a cozy nook perfect for a short break to take a meal, read a book, or even take a nap. The bathroom features a glass-enclosed shower so the owners can get a fresh start to the workday when they have occasion to stay the night. The hallway between the office area and the bedroom features bookshelves and filing cabinets to help the owners to stay organized. The bedroom allows the owners to sleep here overnight, store a wardrobe of back up work clothes, and greet the work day fully rested and prepared.
